WAIMANA WOMEN’S INSTITUTE SOCIAL

A most successful social and, dance was held. recently in the Waimana Hall by the Waimana-Nukuhou Women’s Institute. Members presented items right throughout the evening. The dance music was contributed by Mrs M. King, Mrs Martin and Mr A. Bell and Mr'R. Looney acted as M.C. , •

Novelty dances were quite popular and the items were all well received by the large attendance of dancers. V

Elocution items were given by Mrs Hewitt and Mrs J. Wardlaw, Mrs Stansbury presented the performing “Flea” and assisted by Miss T. King and Mrs Stevenson - acted “Roses Red,” both items being humorous. A pretty playette “This is so Sudden,” written by Mrs Stansbury was well acted by Misses Nola Rust, Ann Cranswick, Alice White and Dora Wardlaw.

A splendid exhibition of the Sailors Hornpipe was given by Misses N. Rust and D. Wardlaw, and D. Wardlaw also gave a musical mono-; logue, “Who Gets It.” The minuet * was nicely danced by Misses N. Rust and A. White, Members of, the Glee Club presented Choral Speaking, and sang several part songs. Mrs Potter and Mrs M. King gave a humorous vocal duet in costume, “Oh No John No John.’, and Mrs Boynton and Miss M.* Boynton sang a selection of well known songs. - At the conclusion of the items, Mrs R. Looney, president of the Institute, thanked all for their.. great * help towards the function, which was a great success socially and financially.

A supper cloth donated by Mrs Martin for competition was won by Mrs G. Mitchell, Mrs T. King, won a dinner donated by Institute members, and Mrs Neisse was successful in another competition.
