Motor Registration
MOTORISTS URGED ! TO COME IN EARLY Motor registration for the j 1948-49 year at the Whakatane , Post Office has, according to the Postmaster Mr Hills, been very slow only approximately 91 vehicles having been re-regis-tered to date.
Important feature this year is that a new series of petrol coupons will, be issued to come into force at the beginning of July. However, vehicle owners will be able to use coupons 7,8, 9, if they were hot‘used last month and also the new June coupons 10, 11 and 12 until the end of this month. / It is estimated that vehicles to be registered this year in the Whakatane area total, 1810 made up of 1006 cars, 373 trucks, 180 trailers, 105 tractors, 73 other motor vehicles and 83 motor-cycles.
It was mentioned that when relicensing their vehicles, owners were required to quote the number of the plates affixed to their cars and not the number of the label.
Owing to the extreme shortage of staff at the Post Office (one man has to handle all the registrations) the Postmaster has asked that all owners get their registering done early to avoid a last minute rush.
