A A AAA “Our Amazing Universe” Showing that for more than 3,000 years men were wrong in their 'theories concerning the universe, but that the Bible was right, Mr C. R. Murchison used the fact as an argument in favour of Scriptural veracity when addressing the opening meeting of the “Big Tent” evangelical campaign on Sunday night. Mr Murchison quoted Old Testament texts to show that Bible teaching was that the earth was spherical, hanging on nothing and one of a host of planets. These texts cut clear across the teachings .of Aristotle and pagan for thousands of years. • The wise men of Babylon, Egypt, Greece and Rome, all taught that the world was flat, held up by Atlas and. the centre of the universe. These ideas more or less prevailed down as late as the sixteenth century, Mr Murchison said, and Galilee fought against great odds when they claimed that the earth was not the centre of the Universe. The sailors of Columbus almost mutinied for. fear of going over the edge of the unknown. A selection of the best photographic slides from the world’s leading observatories was used throughout the address to show the structure of our amazing universe.
