TRAMPING CLUB PLANS FOR WEEK-END

The Whakatane Tramping Club mapped out an extensive itinerary for the King’s Birthday weekend at the special meeting o'f the club at the High School on Tuesday night. Instead of the original trip to Tarawera, the. club has thought itself capable of making two tramps; one to Mount Tarawera under Mr Robinson and one down the East Coast past Opotiki, under the guidance of Mr K. Mayclair. Both trips are to occupy the whole week-end. The Opotiki trip is to be along the coast to the Haurere Point, where a base camp will be made, and from there the parties intend to tramp into scenic the hinterland, up the tributaries of the Motu River. It was decided to run this trip for the not-so-experienced trampers in the club, in preference to the more strenuous Tarawera trip. The Tarawera trip will be to Lake Tarawera by road and across the lake to the hut. Next day the party will attempt to climb Mt Tarawera, returning to Whakatane on the Monday.

Tentative rulings until complete rules for the club are approved are that no fire arms are to -be carried on official tramps except with bolt of the weapon in the carrier’s pack. Also there is to be no liquor carried on mixed tramps.
