Whakatane Bowling Club Has Successful Season Greatly Improved Lay-Out

The annual meeting of the Whakatane Bowling Club was held in the club rooms on Thursday night. A large number of bowlers being present. The annual report showed that a most successful year had been completed especially from the point of view of the number of games played and trophies won, and the amount of improving work that had been carried out on the club’s property. The club’s finances after all these improvements had been made were in a really sound position. Trophies won by members through the season were presented at the meeting by the president, Mr J. W. Wilson. Winners were:— Senior Singles Championship: Mr D. Anderson.

Champion Pairs, Open: Messrs S. J. McKenzie and W. S. Henderson (s). Handicap Pairs: Messrs E. J. Bell and C. R. Coates (s). Intermediate Singles Championship: Mr M. Merito. Junior Singles Championship: Mr T. Duley.

Teams from the club also won the Francis Cup (Bay of Plenty Centre), The Forbes Cup (Eastern Bay of Plenty Full Rinks Competition) and the Whakatane-Taneatua Challenge Shield.

The following officers were elected:—

Patron, Mr W. Sullivan, M.P.; president, Mr J. W. Wilson; vicepresident, Mrs J. Creeke; secretary, Mr C. R. Coates; committee, Messrs C. Sims, S. T. McLeod, R. Spong, W. S. Henderson, S. J. McKenzie; auditor, Mr H. G.' Warren; handicapper, Mr W. S. Henderson; coach, Mr D. Anderson; delegates to Bay of Plenty Bowling Centre, Messrs J. W. Wilson, J. Creeke and C. R. Coates.
