Meat and Wool Section Of Bay Province

Mr H. S. Holmes was elected chairman and Mr Redpath vicechairman of the meat and wool section at the recent conference of Bay of Plenty Province Federated Farmers.

Mr Boulcott, delegate on the District Pig Council, reported 'on the annual meeting, stating that in 1938 18 per cent of the pigs were condemned, and in 1947, 4| per cent condemned. Prices rose from 4-£d to 9d. The levy was raised from 5d to 6d per pig. The speaker urged that weights be . kept down to 1601bs as last year 38 per cent of the pigs were over weight. Mr Gow, discussing the levy stated that if farmers did not support the Council, they might have the matter taken out of their hands and have Government control.
