Awakeri Y.F.C. Defeats Thornton In Dehate

Thornton Hall was the scene of a very interesting debate between the Awakeri and Thornton Clubs on the subject: “That increased production for all animals can be obtained more surely by improved feeding rather than by improved breeding.” Thornton took the affirmative and Awakeri negative side, teams being M. Law, F. Broadmore and L. Broadmore for the former and B. Mundy, S. Luttrell and J. Barr for the latter. Awakeri won by 271 points to 247. Mr lan B. Gow was the adjudicator and points allotted by him follow: Thornton: M. Law, 22 for subjectmatter, 10 for deportment, 17 for eliquence, 18 for reasoning and criticism, a total of 67 of a possible 100; F. Broadmore 22, 11, 18, 17, 68; L. Broadmore, 21, 10, 17, 15, 63. Awakeri: B. Mundy, 29, 11, 17, 20, 77; S. Luttrell, 22, 9, 15, 17, 63; J. Barr, 28, 12, 18, 20, 78. The leaders’ summary and criticism gained the following points: M. Law, 19 for his closing address, 30 for teamwork; B. Mundy, 30 and 33. ' At the close of the debate Mr Gow gave some very helpful criticism of the individual speakers’ weak points, and the meeting closed after a substantial supper.
