Nukuhou North School Holds Fancy Dress Ball As Farewell To Teacher

The school rooms at Nukuhou were tastefully decorated for the Children’s Fancy Dress Dance held there last Friday evening. The children vfirst presented part songs “Fokare Kare” and “Incy Wincy Spider.” A recitation by Faye Hughes and Gilda Mottram, entitled “Mary’s Morals.” was well received, and the humoorus elocution item, “A Cockeyes Spell,” giv£n by Vivian O’Kane received loud applause from the audience.

A number of games for the children were played during the evening. The children’s Monte Carlo was won by two boys. After ice creams and supper had been served, Mr Grant, headmaster of the Nukuhou School, in fare Welling Miss M. Stewart, said how sorry all were to be saying farewell to Miss Stewart, the pupil teacher, who has been transferred. Mr Grant spoke of her bright and happy disposition and her sterling qualities, and her help in work and play. -He then called forward Faye Hughes who presented Miss Stewart with a lovely bouquet.

Tinkey Ball, a senior pupil, on behalf of the children, said how sorry they were at Miss Ste Wart’s departure from Nukuhou North and wished her every success in the future. She then presented her with a gift. Mr T. Doran, on behalf of the School Committee, asked the guest of honour to accept a gift from them in appreciation of her work and co-operation while at the school. Miss Stewart thanked everyone for their good wishes and kind remarks and for the lovely gifts. Dancing then continued for the adults.
