Enjoyable Birthday Party At Thornton
A most enjoyable evening was held in the Thornton Hall on May 6 when friends gathered to honour Miss Pat Jackson at a coming-of-age party. The hall was tastefully decorated, for the evening, and the Rhythm Vendors supplied excellent dance music. The guests were welcomed by Mr Jackson, Miss Jackson and Miss Betty McArthur. ’ Miss Jackson looked charming in a white lace frock, with a small cape collar outlining the off the shoulder neckline, and caught with a cameo brooch in front. With it she wore a short fur cape. Betty chose palest pink net over taffeta; the shoulder sprays of both girls being the gift of an aunt in Tauranga. Supper was a real fSast, the guests thoroughly enjoying the large variety of foods. Supper over, Mr Robins congratulated the guest of honour on having reached her majority and presented her with the key of the front door—a gold key brooch. Mr T. Cummings, of Auckland, an old family friend, then gave Pat a large wooden key of the back door, the key later having the names of the guests inscribed thdreon. Incidentally Mr Cummings gave Pat’s mother away as a bride. Miss Jackson made a neat speech thanking her parents, brothers, sisters and friends for their goodness to her, and then cut the cake. A feature of the icing was the drum and sticks, Pat being a member of the local Caledonian Pipe Band.
