Maiden Sows mated to a selected son of the imported boar “Woodburn Seaman.” The mature sows to a son of “Silver Rajah” (Imported). 8 Berkshire Boars from Prolific Sows, also. 20 Maiden and Mature Tamworth Sows, mainly “Blakeny Banner” (Imp.) and “Kinilahah” (Imp.) strains and pasturing with a selected Lismore t Boar. 2 Tamworth Boars. 20 Maiden and Mature Large Black Sows, mated to three different strains of selected boars. 10 Large Black Boars. 80 Duroc Jersey Sows, comprising; 30 Selected Sows mated to sons of imported sires. 12 Sows mated to an imported sire. 10 Daughters of “Eureka Smoothgoing” Imp. mated to a son of Bathbank Betty (Imp.) 30 Second and third litter sows mated to selected and imported sires. 1 Imported Sow mated to “Eureka Smoothgoing” Imported. 1 Imported Boar. The Imported Sow, Marvels Pearl, was bred by Messrs. Juhl Bros. Luverne,. U.S.A., and imported to Canada for six months. While awaiting shipment to New Zealand arrangements were made to have this sow bred to an outstanding Canadian Sire. Through shipping delay a litter of eleven pigs was farrowed on the voyage. _ * The Imported Sow and imported Boar in this offering are from this litter. The sow has been bred to “Eureka Smoothgoing” who has proved a great sire. 20 SERVICE BOARS 12 CROSS BRED SOWS, in farrow, comprising:— Large Blacks mated to Duroc Jerseys. Berkshires mated to Duroc Jerseys. Tamworths mated to Duroc Jerseys. And various mated to Large Black Sires. i Comprising popular breeds crossed with Duroc Jerseys and Large Blacks, and which are proving their worth with large litters. This is an unique opportunity for farmers to make a wide selection in securing their requirements. Many of the sows will be close to farrowing. They have all been farmed on pasture and artichokes and will not be housed until sale time. The decision to hold a sale was made too late to allow for the preparation of a catalogue. With the purebreds, an extended pedigree Iwill be given where required, but 'no transfers will be issued, i . All purchases will be placed free on rail. Clients will be assisted by the Vendor on the matter of delivery. The “LUCERNEDALE” Stud has been built on strains from England, America, Canada and Australia, over 80 head having been imported, 49 of which were in-farrow sows. The aim has been to develop strains of easy-feeding, early-maturing, firstgrade pigs. While about 2500 are bred annually, only the tops of the best strains are sent out as breeders.
