Tribute To World’s Mothers
Great Contribution To Saner, Better World
“Today it is the noble and virtuous lives of mothers that is the greatest contribution to mak-. ing this world a saner and better place to live in. It is only to be regretted that the voice of such mothers is not being heard collectively in the affairs of nations the world over as a means towards a real peace,” said Rev. F. J. Climo at the special Mothers’ Day service conducted in the Methodist Church last Sunday at which members of the League of Mothers attended.
President of the League, Mrs Metcalfe, read the Scripture message from Proverbs 31.10-31. Mrs T. W. James was the soloist, “The Lord is Mindful of His Own.”
“It would be dishonest to-say because it is Mothers’ Day that we should sing the praise of all mothers,” Mr Climo said. “Unfortunately there is evidence in plenty to show that both mothers and fathers in many homes are. simply not playing the game. Children come as a gift of God into homes 'where there is no moral or spiritual training and they grow up in ignorance of the Christian ethics. The judgment of God must await those parents who have disdained virtues, decency and Christian principles.
“True motherhood God has blessed, and in blessing He has blessed all of the human race. We know that in His plan for the redemption of mankind God sent His son, our Lord and Saviour; when He" came it was announced by the Heavenly choir to the watching shepherds who journeyed to Bethlehem to find that God had placed in the arms of a virtuous and noble woman the infant Jesus. We can thank God for this Mother’s noble life and purity, that Mary should be chosen for this divine birth.
“Mary, Mother of our Lord, stood at the Cross of her Son and shared with him the pain and anguish when He gave the world the- Christ-given way of life. True motherhood and fatherhood builds the family life on" the one sure foundation, Christ Himself. The Christ on the Cross is the central figure of home life and in time the grown child, through realising the value of such a home environment, will call his mother blessed. “Mothers’ Day, is the symbol of a mother’s love that brings to remembrance a name precious to every true son and daughter. Some one once said that God could not be everywhere so He gave us Mothers,” continued Mr Climo. “Though we know that this is not true regarding the omnipresent God, it contains a beautiful thought of the mission of motherhood. Because we can appreciate a good Mother’s past care and her selfsacrifice 'on our behalf, we acknowledge a debt that we can never fully repay.”
