OOOH!

Sir, —It is with complete disgust that I have read your report on Saturday’s football, match between Wairaka and Waimana teams, where a rather sordid and belittling attack has been made against the latter team, which team has been described as ‘rather scraggy’ and still later ‘scrappy.’ In the first place, your reporter has emphasised the fact that ‘ the Waimana team was completely overshadowed in all departments of the game, which statement has aroused the Waimana forward pack who were successful in practically every scrum in securing the ball. May we remind you that this Waimana team is the youngest and lightest team in the Union, and that one cannot expect them to put up a very strong game against a heavier and older team.

Nevertheless, notwithstanding 'this vicious, unwarranted, and unsportsmanlike attack, which would perhaps demoralise other players, the Waimana .team intends to carry on and play their further matches with, the true spirit of Rugby footballers. I do feel that our team is en- . titled to an apology for this wicked and childlike onslaught. Yours etc., FRONT ROW.-

And should anyone who whines like this over a bit of quite fair -criticism be talking so loudly about sportsmanship? Although we think this letter is somewhat nauseating, we print it, because we feel “Front Row” has a perfect right to let off steam if it makes him feel any better.—-Editor.
