FINLAY-NEWDICK WEDDING AT TANEATUA PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

The Presbyterian Church at Taneatua was the scene of a charming wedding when Joan, daughter of Mr and Mrs L. Newdick, Taneatua, was dedded to Gordon, son of Mr and Mrs J. Finlay, of Te Awamutu. Mr Nummy officiated. The bride wore a lovely gown of cream satin made with a low waist line, the back being buttoned from neck to waist. The long sleeves formed points over the back oi the hand. A beautifully embroidered net veil was held to the head by a halo of orange blossoms. A shower bouquet of roses and chrysanthemums was carried.

The bridesmaid, the bride’s sister, Iris, and the flower girl, the bride’s sister Thelma, were frocked alike in blue marquisette, while their scarlet posies and scarlet floral head bands made a striking contrast. The groom was attended by his brother, Mr Colin Finlay. Upon leaving the church the bride was presented with a lucky horse shoe, by Gordon Finlay. At the reception held in the Taneatua Hall the guests were received by Mr and Mrs Newdick and Mrs Finlay. Mrs Newdick wore a smart henna suit with black accessories and a gold spray, and Mrs Finlay was in a black and white ensemble with black accessories and a spray in pink tonings. The tables had been decorated to tone with the bridal party in flowers of blue and white and the daintily decorated wedding cake evoked much admiration.

Mr G. Santon was the very efficient toastmaster.

Later the bridal couple left by car on an extended honeymoon, the bride wearing a blue linen suit with wine accessories.

They will make their home on their farm at Waiahou.
