Waimana Defeats Opotiki School In Y.F.C. Debate

A debate was held in the Opotiki High School on Monday night betwee the Opotiki High School and Waimana Young Farmers’ Clubs on the question “Should ‘New Zealand’s imigrant policy allow for the importing of 50,000 imigrants a year?” Adjudicator was the Reverend Clements. The decision went in favour of the Waimana team with 334 points as against Opotiki’s 309. The speakers for the Opotiki team were McDonald, Gault and Eppingstall, and for Waimana Marra, McDonald and Mitchell.

The judge, at the conclusion of the debate, gave a criticism of the speakers and said that the Opotiki team had lost so heavily because their speakers read too much from their notes.
