Pongakawa Rabbit Board: 98% Rate Collection

At the last meeting of the Pongakawa Rabbit Board, a report to a recent farmers’ meeting showing that the cost of administration on the figures of several rabbit boards was 8.1 per cent, was quoted with the comment that the figure paid by the Crown on claims was 6 per cent. It was left to -the chairman to take any action he thought fit to bring this matter before the North Island Rabbit Board Conference.

The secretary reported that 98 per cent of the rates had been collected, totalling £2015, and leaving £45 yet to be collected. Estimates for the destruction of rabbits on the Crown, Native and State Forest Lands for 1948-49 are £548, £844, and £3Bl respectively. A letter received from the Agricultural Department advised that the Crown grant for the Rabbit extermination had been increased by £3O.
