World Chief Guide’s Visit: Guide And Scout Rally
The visit of Lady Baden Powell to Whakatane on Thursday in connection with her world tour focuses new attention on those two great youth movements, the Scouts apd the Guides. With her late husband (Lord Baden Powell, the founder of world Scouting) Ladl Baden Powell has devoted .her life to the building up of a better and healthier spirit in international youth.
Her visit to Whakatane will be marked by a Civic Reception in the Grand Theatre to which citizens generally are invited, and over which the Mayor will preside, a march past of some 400 Guides and Scouts at The Heads, where Lady Baden Powell will take the salute and a Guide and Scout Rally at the Heads park in the afternoon at 2.30 p.m. Special efforts have been made to bring every member of the two movements into town for the occasion, and it is particularly desirable to see a large and representative number at the Civic Reception which takes place at 11 a.m. Lady Baden Powell is a fluent and powerful speaker and has a message of great importance to deliver to adults and parents generally. In order that as many as possible shall be given the opportunity to attend, in several districts school holidays have been declared, whilst in Whakatane the retailers have been 'approached to make time off available for those of their staff who are interested and who desire to attend the Civic Reception. Owing to the felling of the bluegums in the Domain it has been found impossible to hold the welcome rally there and the following adjustments in the original programme have been necessary:— 10.30 a.m., Muster of all units outside Grand Theatre; 11, Inspection and Civic Reception; 11.15, Regent Theatre; 12.30 Luncheon Winter Show Hall; 1.00, Brownies and Cubs embus for Heads; 1.30, Parade, assembles Easfefh’Strand;' off to Heads Road, led by Pipe Band; 2, Lady Baden Powell takes salute at Heads; 2.15, Greeting by Cubs and Brownies; 2-30, Lady Baden Powell’s address, 3.15 Meeting of officers with Lady Baden Powell; 3.30, Lowering of flag, taps,.
