Bay Of Plenty Rugby Union Elects Officers: Plans Made For Year

The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union on Saturday:—Patron, Mr L. Clarke;. vicepatron, Mr W. T. Burt; president, Mr' A. E. Spratt; vice-presidents, the presidents of all sub-unions; honorary ' secretary-treasurer, Mr W. S. Henderson; Maori representative, Mr T. Anderson; honorary auditor, Mr J. A. Ruddy; honorary solicitor, Mr G. Otley; Bay Referees’ Association executive member, Mr G. A. T. McLelland; Primary School Rugby Union member of executive, Mr E. Naumann; executive committee, Messrs Guinness (Tauranga), Wright (Rotorua), Burrett (Opotiki)!, Thompson (Rangitaiki), Farmer (Te Puke), Bryers (\Vhakatane), Stunnell (Galatea). Apanui member to be appointed; emergency committee, Messrs Guinness, Anderson, Burrett and Wright. The president and secretary are to be members of both executives. Selectors, Messrs Farmer (Te Puke), Clarke. (Rotorua), Stacey (Tauranga). Mr Farmer was appointed chairman of the selection committee. Delegates to the N.Z.R.U. are the secretary and Mr Guinness. The draw for the Hurunui-Apanui Shield is: Apanui v Opotiki .at Apanui; Whakatane v Galatea at Galatea; Rangitaiki v Rotorua at Rangitaiki. Tauranga will play a challenge match against the holders at Te Puke. All these matches are to be played off on July 3. The boundary of the Whakatane and Rangitaiki sub-unions was fixed by mutual agreement and the new boundaries are? Powdrell Road to Luxton Road, down Luxton Road to the intersection of Rotorua highway, thence straight in to the Whakatane West station. Advice was received by the meeting that a “Potted Goal” now counted as only 3 points. Mr Tat Anderson, the Maori representative, advocated that the Union give more consideration to Junior representative football and he considered that at least two Junior representative matches should be played in the season; one at home and one away. It was decided to act on his suggestion and accordingly three junior selectors were appointed. They are Messrs J. Read, F. Burt and T. Lawrence.
