Fire Brigade Try-Out With Trailer And Motor Units

A demonstration of equipment carried out by the Whakatane Fire Brigade at the Heads last Tuesday night, was partly to determine the loss of force in the stream of water by friction on a long length of hose and partly to demonstrate the efficiency of the local brigade. Working inthe dark to simulate actual conditions, the Brigade had in operation a trailer pump and the Brigade’s engine which can each pump at the rate of 450 gallons a minute. The trailer unit was. placed on the fiat rock and the motor unit about 70 yards from the river bank. The idea was to draw water from the river with the trailer-pump and send it on to the motor unit to be boosted up to cover 601bs to the square inch. Four leads of various sizes were taken from the engine, and all showed ail excellent stream. Tests at various revolutions of - the engine were made with satisfactory results.
