The Rev. R. T. Dodds, new minister to Knox Presbyterian Church, preached his first sermon at Ohope on Sunday to a larger than usual congregation. After the service an informal get-together of resident churchgoers was held at the hall and Mr and Mrs Dodds were each presented with a buttonhole and a spray by Mrs Allen. Mesdames J. G. Laughton, F. Cutler and C. H. Brebner attended to the afternoon tea. At Tuesday evening’s meeting of the Whakatane Rotary Club the following members were nominated for the election of officers which takes place in May : President, jßotanan Harry Warren; vice-president, Rotarian Fred Appleby; directors (four to be elected), Rotarians Les Brown, Len Buddie, Fred Lysaght, Henry Dainton and Charlie Hudson; secretary, Rotarian Hec Dewar; treasurer, Rotarian Alec Canning.
