Circus Gets Enthusiastic Reception At Whakatane
The old glamour and sparkle of the big top and the circus life has not lost its attraction as was evident by the crowds of children and grown-ups that thronged the site to watch the hurried erection of Sole Bros.’ circus town and by the immense numbers that crowded eagearly into the big top on Thursday night to watch the programme of animal acts, feats of strength and daring and above all the amazing leaps of the trained long-jumping greyhounds. Most of the children present had never seen a circus and to many of the younger grown-ups it was a new experience also and all screamed their * appreciation of the clowns of the show Johnnj', Chilo and Leono in their comic riding act. The feats of daring and dexterity by the Flying Ridgeways bought gasps of amazement from the galleries as these nerveless performers weht through their act in the height of the big top.' The buzz and excited chatter that broke out as the last act of the evening, the performing elephants, concluded showed that this circus above any other would remain firmly fixed in the minds of both young and old.
