March Meeting Of Edgecumbe Institute
The March meeting of the Edgecumbe Women’s Institute was held recently, Mrs Fergusson presiding. Final arrangements were made for the Eisteddfod. Mrs Burgess and Mrs Wollett were elected delegates to the Federation Council meeting. The annual meeting was then held. The president welcomed Mrs Withy and Mrs Caverhill, who were both presented with dainty posies. Mrs Woollett read the annual report, which showed steady progress throughout the year. Mrs Fergusson in her presidential report thanked he committee and members for theirhelp during her first year and hoped the new year’s work would continue to improve. Mrs K. Magee, on behalf .of all members, presented posies of marigolds to Mrs Fergusson and Mrs Wollett.
Mrs Caverhill gave a short address and Mrs Withy also spoke briefly on Institute affairs. Miss Fergusson delighted all with her singing of Comrades and Friends.
The new committee was elected, and Mrs R. Hall was welcomed as a new member.
Competition results:— Duchess set: Miss Jamieson 1, Mrs Macdonald 2, Mrs., Wilson 3. Tomato relish: Mrs Bell 1, Mrs Woollett 2, Mrs Black 3. Apple shortcake: Mrs Black 1, Mrs Sim 2, Mrs Woollett 3. Best flower: Mrs Quayle 1, Mrs Black 2, Mrs Magee 3.. . Year’s competition winners were: Talent: Mrs Wilson 1, Mrs Malpas 2, Mrs Teasdale 3. Best flower: Mrs Black 1, Mrs Quayle 2, Mrs H. Carter 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Woollett 1, Mrs Sim and Mrs Pepperell 2, Mrs Black 3.
