WHITHER BOUND, HUMANITY

Sir, —Controversy as regards the above appeared several times in the Beacon, my letter of January 11, 1946, then stated that humanity would stop itself and followed up with an article which the Beacon did not publish. However, I am again offering a copy of the letter which endeavoured to place a written picture of what was then going on in Europe. My Mend Bob and I somewhere on the high country overlooking the Black Sea. On the way up to our selected spot we discussed the world’s future in the hands of a League of Nations hence my letter as follows: Scripture has it that after the downfall of the Roman Empire humanity would be entrusted to nations or a combination of such. Time has proved that nations can never cling together so that Providence has taken a hand since the fall-of the Roman Empire down through the ages. Frederick the Great tried world conquest. He failed. Napoleon tried. He failed. The Kaiser tried. He failed. Hitler tried, .and he failed. Now we find ourselves looking into this picture. My friend and I were quite concerned as regards humanity’s future we decided to go for a walk. We had not gone far, my friend said, look, look just on the horizon of those far off lands. I see what looks like some one drilling men, who is it, let’s get closer. It’s a Russian officer, I see one Japanese in the first line why the whole line is Japanese, there are other coloured men. Yes Indians, Egyptians, Arabs with turbans, but look at the lines behind hundreds deep. Germans, Austrians, Rumanians, Slavs, Spaniards and even Italians. Coming on still further back are millions of Russians. Humanity can never survive that hoard they will all move together very soon. Look out at sea. There is the Russian navy that is to patrol the world’s waters, aircraft carriers loaded with atom bombs.

■ My. friend asks what’s the meaning of all we see. Its Russia’s effort to dominate the world, civilisation does not warrant what we see likely to happen in the future, take yourself back ten years friends and see what civilisation wanted then. Germany had the whole world in the hands of Fifth Columnists by whom she hoped to gain all the information necessary, for world con- . quest. The world Saviour that stopped Frederick the Great, Napoleon and the Kaiser brought about Germany’s downfall. Now we have Russia with the same asperations. She has a world wide Communist Party, Russian Fifth Columnists they are endeavouring to get representation on every reconstructing Government in Europe, they are fighting the Chinese for power, they have Australia by the throat and trying to get in the back door here. My friend you have now seen the stage set for another world war. Yes, but the peace conference will settle, that, don’t be silly friend why? The world after its creation was visited by the Creator’s son, blessed with all power. Public opinion and people’s conferences crucified and nailed him to a cross. God’s words has never found unanimity in 2000 years of Christianity have to arm and fight to preserve peace. This picture focussed in 1946 is fast becoming a fact. What is humanity doing, gambling with, our lives and those to come this time humanity will stop itself. Yours etc., P. MORA. Mr Mora refers to a letter which was not published. At this distance of time, one cannot tell him why. But the Editor wants to make it clear that the Beacon welcomes expressions of opinion from its readers, particularly constructive criticism of the paper itself or of any angle of its policy. Direct criticism helps. An occasional pat on the back helps a lot. We like to know what you think of us.—Editor.
