Waimana-Nukuhou W.I. Gardening Circle's Monthly Meeting
The monthly meeting of the Wai-hana-Nukuhou Women's Institute gardening circle was held at Mrs R. White's home last Wednesday afternoon. The attendance was good, Mrs Wylde presiding. Mrs Cooper gave several hints oh growing Polyanthus roses and using sawdust on gardens. An interesting competition naming sprays of Native tree leaves, was won by. Mrs M. King and another competition, a trial of skill, was won by Mrs A. Macdonald.
Mrs White retired from the secretarial duties and Mrs Hewitt kindly consented to fill the position. Mrs Wylde thanked Mrs White for her duties in the past ,which were always , well done. At this stage of the meeting, Mrs Cooper, who is. leaving the district and has been a very good member of the gardening circle for several years, was presented with a lovely bouquet and gift from her fellow members by Mrs Wylde, with their best wishes.
The day's competitions were judged by Mrs Macdonald and Mrs Chapman-Smith. Results follow: — Floating bowl: Mrs Whiteman 1, Mrs Looney 2, Mrs C. Hampton 3. Best flower: Mrs Looney 1, Mrs R. White 2, Mrs Hampton 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs Hampton 2, Mrs White 3. After afternoon tea, members viewed the garden which was quite bright with autumn flowers. Mrs Wylde closed the meeting by thanking the hostesses, judges and Mrs White for the use of her home.
