From Bulls To Cowes! Red Cross Food Gift Described As "Apposite"

Mr F. W. Hefford, Clerk of the Cowes Urban District Council, writes: "I would like to express to the New Zealand Red Cross our thanks and deep appreciation of the unselfish and generous work which they are doing in the sending of gifts. from the town of Bulls, New Zealand, to the town of Cowes, 1.W., as 'so apposite a gift.' "With this we all agree, and I have taken "the liberty of sending on behalf of the people of Cowes our thanks direct to Bulls. " Mr Hefford's letter to the Chairman of the Bulls Town Board is as follows:—

"It was with great interest that the Council received notification from the Overseas Gifts (Food) Allocation Centre of the Ministry of Food of a gift from Bulls Town Board of one case of foodstuffs. "The handing out has taken place today, and I feel it most appropriate to express on behalf of Cowes our thanks to the people of. Bulls for thejr kind thoughts and generous action.

"With our present ration of 2oz. butter per week, supplemented by 4ozs. margarine and loz. cooking fat (the last-named remains anonymous as a substance), and 2J pints of milk per week per person (maximum ration and not guaranteed), it would seem that it is even difficult to get. butter and milk from 'Cowes.'"
