Autumn Lambs
Eighteen sheep on a Cambridgeshire farm have reversed the laws of nature. They are lambing now in the autumn instead of in the spring. This is the result of experiments by 31-year-old Mr N. T. M. Yeates, of Queensland, who is doing farming research at Cambridge. The Suffolk ewes —Suffolks being regarded as among the most prolific of British breeds —were put in pens, and exposed to electric light, which, affeciec-. their pituitary glands ancf reversed their breeding season. This experiment promises to speed up the export of pedigree British stock to Australia and the United States. Horses and goats are said to redact in a similar 'way.
