Whakatane Riders Do I Well In Motor Cycle Events At Opotiki Local riders participated in a. trial held by the Tiki Motor Cycle Club at Opotiki on Sunday and filled the placings in both the events run. Opotiki riders, however, were un--fortunate in being dogged by badluck, one competitor having brake trouble, another a, benzine blockage and a third chain trouble. The trial course, which was about seven miles out of Opotiki, was an excellent one and necessitated skilful riding by the competitors. A speed run in which riders rode round half the trial course and back as quickly as possible resulted in the following placings: A. Marsh, 350 cc A.J.S., and A. Teasdale, 250 cc B.S.A. 1 equal; A, Jesperson, 250 cc 8.5. A,, and J. Marsh, 500 cc Triumph, 2 equal; B. Woods, 250 cc 8.5. A., 3. The winners of the trial were: A. Marsh 350 cc A.J.S., 1; J. Marsh, 500 cc Triumph, 2; A. Teasdale, 250' cc 8.5. A., 3. T.T. Champs Comiitg Here Dixie Dean and Bill Grey, two of the Dominion’s outstanding motor cycling champions, both of whom are Tourist Trophy riders, will be appearing at the Whakatane motorcycle gymkhana next week.- They can be relied upon for thrills,, but the event calculated to cause most interest will be the “death leap’* stunt in which a masked rider will jump his machine through a blazing board screen. No-one knows who the rider will be, other than that he will be a member of the local club, decided upon by ballot from amongst the many volunteers.
