OH, THE CADS! TROUT POACHERS BUSY IN DISTRICT
Last night the County Rod and Gan Club met at Taneatua to discuss action against persons who have been raiding trout in district streams with gelignite, wire netting traps and herring lines baited with worms. A full report of the meeting will be available on Tuesday. Meanwhile it can be said that members of the Club are seething with indignation and determined to have the culprits run to earth., It has taken five years to- get the streams here stocked ,to the point of a few weeks ago. Experts , consider the damage done already has set the position back three, and a half years. It has been reported to officials of the club that, at one place on the upper reaches of the Waimana River, a wire netting barrier was stretched across the stream, and the helpless fish taken by hand. There is evidence of extensive blasting operations. At least one case of trout being caught on a herring line baited with a worm -is known.
