GOODHEW LIMITED the occupiers of Drapers’ shops at Taneatua have made application under Section 19 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act 1927 and Section 3 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act 1945 for partial exemption from the provisions of The Northern Industrial District RetailShop Assistants’ Award dated the 31st day of October 1947 which requires that the said shops shall not be open for business on Saturday. The said applicants are applying for authority to close their respective Draper’s shops all day on Wednesday of each week and to keep the same open for business on Saturday of each week from 8.0 a.m. to 8.0 p.m.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the said applications will be heard at the Magistrate’s Court at Whakatane on Tuesday the 2nd day of March 1948 at 10.0 a.m. Any occupier of a shop alleging that he will be substantially affected by the above applications shall be entitled to appear and be heard in opposition thereto. MORGAN, Clerk of the Court, Whakatane. 44 WHAKATANE COUNTY COUNCIL NOTICE OF SPECIAL ORDER NOTICE is hereby given that at a special meeting of the WHAKATANE COUNTY COUNCIL held on Tuesday the 24th day of February, 1948 the following Resolution was passed, and will be submitted for confirmation at the ordinary meeting of the Council to be held on Tuesday the 23rd day of March 1948 at 11 a.m. at the County Council Chambers, Whakatane. RESOLUTION IN PURSUANCE and exercise of the powers vested in it by Section 122 of the Counties Act 1920 and Section 2 of the Counties Amendment Act 1929, and with the consent of the ratepayers of that area in the Whakatane County known as the Edgecumbe Township Area, as testified by a Petition dated the Ist day of December 1947 and signed by a majority of the ratepayers in the said Area—lands comprising such Area being fully shown on the plan annexed to the said Petition, a - copy of which Plan is attached to the Minutes of this meeting and shall form part of this Resolution— THE WHAKATANE COUNTY COUNCIL hereby resolves by way of SPECIAL ORDER to make and levy a Separate Rate of One shilling and Six pence (1/6) in the pound upon the Unimproved Value of all rateable property within the said Area and that such separate rate shall be an annually recurring rate during the period required in which to repay in full all monies advanced applied or expended by the Council in connection with the Township improvement works mentioned in the said Petition and thereafter until cancelled in 'accordance with the provisions of the said Petition and shall be payable on the 9th day of September in each year. AND NOTICE is further given that the said Petition with the said Plan annexed and the Minutes containing the said Resolution will be open to inspection by the Public at the County Office, the Strand, Whakatane, during ordinary office hours for a period of at least 21 days immediately preceding the said meeting to be held on the 23rd day of March 1948.
