Junior Rifle Shooting Cup And Pennant Presented On Sunday
The' Whakatane Junior Miniature Rifle Club held a very successful reopening shoot at the Legion of Frontiersmen’s range, Valley Road, last Sunday afternoon. The gathering of members, Frontiersmen and friends had an enjoyable afternoon’s sport, everyone there having a turn on the mound. A pleasant innovation was the providing of a small prize for the best shot among the visiting women and another for the men. During afternoon tea interval, Capt. Simons presented the Howat Cup, awarded each three months, for the best score over that period, to the latest winner, Mr M: Whittaker. The Club Pennant, competed for each shoot went this time to Mr N. Judd.
' A tribute to the handicap system is to be seen in the way these coveted trophies are being shared by members.
Mrs E. R. Hunt won the visiting women’s shoot, and Frontiersman. Bathe collected the cigarettes in the men’s shoot, and Miss A. Bathe took first place in the ‘Own Handicap’ sweepstake. Frontiersmen A. Judd and R. Whittaker, shot off for second place, A. Judd emerging victorious:
