Caledonians’ Farewell To Popular Members Leaving District
On Monday evening members of the Caledonian Society gathered at the residence of Mr and Mrs C. F. Thomas, McAlister Street, to tender them a farewell before their departture to Havelock North ojsl Saturday. The evening took on an informal turn and was controlled by Mr H. Mole. Competitions, games and friendly sing-songs passed the evening all too quickly, and following a delightful supper Mr D. Anderson, society chief, presented the couple with an electric kettle, offering them the good wishes of the society members and thanking them for their zeal and enthusiasm in all matters to do with the organisation. Mr W. Abbot, on behalf of the Junior Caledonians, presented Mr and Mrs Thomas with a handsome hanging mirror.
Mr C. Kingsley-Smith spoke as the oldest executive member. Responding, Mr Thomas expressed deep appreciation of the kindly thoughts and the beautiful gifts, adding that his association with the society would always be strong in his memory.
