Thrills For Crowd At Motorcycle Hill Climbing Contests
Something new in the way of entertainment was provided by the . Bay of Plenty Motor Cycle Club when it staged a hill climb on Sunday. Opotiki riders as well as local members participated and the crowd of onlookers saw a very good display of "riding. •; - Scratch and handicap events' for each class were run and an open handicap event in which all riders were eligible to compete concluded the meeting. Th course proved to be an excel- . lent one and spectators were provided with plenty of thrills as machines v : . roared up the hill and over -the crest. Excitement ran very high over the 1 500 cc event in which J. Marsh put up the fastest time of the day 7 3-5 seconds for the climb. A number of keen photographers lined the course waiting for action shots and there was no lack of these. Seven events were run and an exhibition ride was given by the Marsh brothers. Griffiths Douglas and F, Finucane Velocette, 3. 500 cc: J. Marsh Triumph, 1, T. Potter Ariel, 2, D. Henry Levis, 3Handicap Events 250 cc: B. Woods, 8.5. A., 1, T. Woods, 8.5. A., 2, H. Teasdale, B.S.A. 3. 350 cc: T. Parkinson, 8.5. A., 1, A. Marsh, A.J.S., and D. Griffiths, Douglas, 2, equal. . : j 500 cc: T. Potter, Ariel, 1,-D. Henry Levis, 2, J. Marsh, Triumph, 3. In this event there was much discussion as to whether T. Potter would better J. Marsh’s time but his best was only 7 4-5. Open Handicap: I. Savage.soo vv Ariel, 1, D. Re ad uni China Way Owing to a certain amount of confusion in a contributor’s copy, the scores in individual matches in the Dunlop Shield tennis tourney between Rangitaiki and Whakatanewere published back-to-front last week. Rangitaiki won 11 matches, to 5. Then our contributor gave us the individual matches with Whakatane players’ names first, but Rangitaiki players’ scores first, in eachi case. Read the scores backwards, and all is well.
