Comparative Bay of Plenty wharf and shipping figures show that, for 11 months ended November, 1947, Whakatane handled in total manifest tonnage of cargo 5,092 tons more than Tauranga and Opotiki put together. Here are the details: Tauranga, 111 vessels inwards and outwards, 13,024 Vessel tonnage, 15,944 manifest tonnage; Whakatane 107, 10,879, 32,817: Opotiki 53, 5,637, 11,781.
