Portsea School, England, Expresses Appreciation Of High School’s Gifts

This letter received from the Whakatane District High School’s adopted school, at Portsea, England, by Miss L. M. Lawes, shows how grateful the people over there were for the gifts sent to them for Christmas. “We were all extremely touched by the further generosity shown by your school to us, on the receipt lyesterday of three parcels from Whakatane. On behalf of the staff and the children, do please convey to all your staff and scholars our very warmest thanks and appreciation of all your kindness. We have had a peep at the toys and think they are marvellous. One of our greatest trials at present is the shortage of material for handwork. There is so much we would like to do but just cannot get the material. We have not decided yet on what we will do with the toys. “They will probably be given (a) 'To sick children who are unable to be at school for the Xmas festivities or (b) To children who lost their fathers in the war, or (c) Retained in the school for use by the : five and six year olds in their periods of free activities. Whatever ■we decide you may be sure they will be appreciated. Toys are very • expensive in England. “We shall not find the food diffi- * cult to give away as we are going to use it in our school party. We are giving the children a party with -a Punch and Judy show on December 19 and we will think of our kind :friends in New Zealand.”
