Edgecumbe Farewell To Church Army Captain
Recently a very pleasant evening was spent in the Edgecumbe Hall by parishioners and well-wishers to farewell Captain Rogers, of the Church Army, who was leaving for a fresh field near Dunedin. The Vicar, Rev. J. C. J. Wilson, spoke of the good work performed by Captain Rogers in the parish in the three years he was here. Mr J. Vickery, as chairman, and Mr D. Scott, also spoke about his activities with the Edgecumbe and Thornton troups of the Boy Scouts. Messrs Quayle and J. Cannell said further that all would miss Captain Rogers in the district where he had proved himself very popular with the Bible Class members, the Sunday School, all classes in the community.' They wished him the best of good fortune in the parish to which he -was going. Captain Rogers was preesnted with a cheque by* those present and others in the district to mark the esteem in which he was held. The evening’s programme included musical items rendered by Mrs Armstrong, Otakiri, and Mrs D. Scott, also a sketch by Mesdames Peck and Carr of Otakiri. The rest of the evening was spent in dancing, music being provided by the Broadmore Brothers and Mr R. Thompson. A very nice supper was provided by local women and the evening was brought to a close with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
