Injected Cows Give Birth To Twins
Scientists at the Cambridge agricultural research station have regularly made beef cows give birth to twins instead of single calves by injecting them with an extract of horses’ pituitary gland, says the International Federation of Agricultural Producers. They have also induced heifers to give milk without calving by implanting a drug known as stilboestrol under the skin. The heifers yielded up to 1411 b. of milk weekly and bred normally after the period of induced lactation was over.
