Two Men Plead Guilty To Burgling Church

The discovery of two men, one of whom was holding a lighted candle, in the vestry of All Saint’s Church, Kilbirnie, late one night recently resulted in their appearance in the Magistrate’s Court at Wellington. Joseph Poi, alias Poihou, aged 24, and Frederick Smith, alias Archibald Smith, aged 60, labourer, pleaded guilty to a charge of breaking and entering the church with intent to commit a crime therein. Accused also pleaded guilty to breaking and entering the V/ellington Bowling Club and Kilbirnie Bowling Club premises and committing theft. In both instances they were committed to the Supreme Court for • sentence on all charges.
