No Serious Petrol Shortage Here Yet
Though the taxi and bus proprietors of Whakatane report they have had no serious shortages of petrol for their vehicles, they have had to operate on a strict system of month to month ratioinng. They are very dubious as to the extent they will have to curtail their services after the big cut expected in April. The position so far as the private petrol consumers are concerned will not be serious according to a local retailer, when questioned on the subject. The reason for last month’s short supply he said, was the fact that a large number of holidaymakers were returning home and needed to draw their supplies from the local stations. The situation, he added, would probably improve this month, despite new cuts which are expected.
