Commercial Vehicle Imports
The import licences of commercial motor vehicles from the United Kingdom have been doubled in value for 1948, making it possible to import 2000 such vehicles this year, instead of the 1000-odd originally provided for. This advice has been received by the motor trade in Wellington, which understands also that the Government, while not permitting an increase in the value of licences for United Kingdom motor cars, is considering that possibility. The basic licence for commercial vehicles from the United Kingdom is now 200 per cent of that for 1946. In effect, it amounts to 300 per cent of the value of the imports of United Kingdom commercial vehicles in 1938. The value of the increase is £NZSOO,OOO making the total value of licences £NZI,OOO,OOO this year.
