Positive Case Of Infantile Paralysis In District Hospital

A year-old Maori boy from Matata is in the District Hospital, Whakatane, with positive poliomyelitis. - Mr A. R. Knights, District Health Inspector, told the Beacon yesterday that the case had been officially reported. Information from the hospital is to the effect that, though there is paralysis, the boy’s condition is satisfactory. It is understood that he was admitted for observation some days ago, but the hospital authorities hesitated to make any announcement until diagnosis was reasonably certain. Past records show that there have been odd polio-' myelitis cases here before, so the fact that one has occurred this year does not necessarily mean that the epidemic has spread here.
