Rangitaiki Plains Factory Seems Certain Of Production Record

With January weather so far in favour of high production and record figures for the six months ended at December 31, it looks as though the Rangitaiki Plains Dairy Co. Ltd. is going to set a new record for butter output this year. With 3035 tons for the six months just past, the beating of the 1940-41 record of 5103 tons for the year seems certain.

At this. stage last year 2844 tons had been produced for the first six months, a figure well ahead of the previous best for that part of the year, and record production was hoped for, but the dry spell which set in with the new year and parched the land throughout January and February had a drastic effect on the figures for the second half of the term.

For purposes of comparison, production figures for the first six months of all years since 1940-41 are quoted below, with the exception of 1941-42, during which year the factory produced over 1,000 tons of cheese.

Tons of butter produced in six months to December 31: 1940-41, 2745; 1941-42, not quoted; 1942-43, 2618; 1943-44, 2514; 1944-45, 2544; 1945-46", 2581; 1946-47, 2844; 1947-48, 3035.
