Rod and Gun Clubs Consolidated

On Monday night at a meeting of the committees elected and given power to act by their respective clubs to bring about the consolidation of the Taneatua and Whakatane Rod and Gun Clubs, the following resolution moved by Mr W. C. Davies and seconded by Mr J. D. Rivett, was passed: That as from January 19, 1948, the Taneatua and Whakatane Rod and Gun Clubs be a Consolidated Club and that the club be known as the Whakatane County Rod and Gun Club, embracing the Taneatua and Whakatane Rod and Gun Clubs, that the rules of the Whakatane Club be altered to read as the Whakatane County Rod and Gun Club and that they be adopted by the consolidated club, also that all present financial members of the two clubs be accepted as financial members of the Whakatane County Rod and Gun Club until February 28, 1949. The committeemen of the two clubs were elected en bloc to carry on with the business of the new

.club until the general meeting which would be held in the near future to which all followers of the Rod and Gun in this district are urged to attend. Mr J. D. Rivett, Mr R. F. Morgan and Mr A. W. Jones were elected, pro tern, as chairman, treasurer and secretary respectively. It was decided to hold a club shoot on February 1 on the club’s grounds at Paroa when some of the trophies, including the Silver Pigeon and the “Mrs Matchitt” Cup would be shot for. A ground committee was elected to work out a plan for laying out and installing the other automatic trap. When the installation and alterations were completed an “Open Shoot” would be held including a substantial “Double Rise” event as a preliminary to the Auckland Double Rise Championship which the club had been allocated and which would be held in April or May of this year.
