...The Dominion lambing percentage for this season 93.11, is the highest on record, according to estimates made by the Department of Agriculture. The percentage last year was 89.54. The estimate for the North Island gives a lambing percentage of 92.47, compared with 87.92 last season. The estimated number of lambs born is 10,814,554, compared with 10,453,719 last season. The estimated lambing percentage for the South Island is 93.94, that for last season being 91.69. The number of lambs born is estimated to be 8,498,971, compared with 8,229,713 last season. Comparisons of actual tailings against estimates of lambing in past seasons have shown that official estimates are consistently conservative. It is therefore hoped that Dominion tailings this season will reach 19,500,000.
