High Wages
Some indication of the scarcity of skilled operators ki certain occupations and. the high wages offered to secure the best men was given at a Waikato County Council meeting, when the engineer, Mr R. G. Howell, told of a bulldozer operator accepting an offer of £ls a week, with employment guaranteed for several months, and a condition that, if wet weather prevented any work being done, the operator would be paid not less than £lO a week.
