Party Line Telephone Service Alleged Very Unsatisfactory
At its monthly meeting this week, the Rangitaiki Branch of Federated Farmers decided to send a remit to the provincial executive urging that the atteiv tion of the Postmaster General be drawn to the “very unsatisfactory state” of telephone communications on party lines. The trouble, the remits claims, is due to too many subscribers on the lines, lack of consideration to each other amongst those subscribers and to the lengthy private conversations. Whilst members of the branch do not blame local officers of the P. & T. Department, whose work they believe is hampered by shortage of staff and equipment, they feel that the Department could improve matters considerably by drawing subscribers’ attention to the time limit on party line conversations.
