TIKI MOTOR CYCLE CLUB HOLDS SCRAMBLE MEETING AT OPOTIKI
Whakatane Riders Win Four Of Five Events Six Whakatane riders competed and won four of the five events in the scramble meeting held by the Tiki Motor Cycle Club in Thompson’s Paddock, Opotiki, on Boxing Day. Among the events, the relay race was won by Whakatane as a team. A. Marsh was the winner of both the 500 cc events and the three lap open handicap. Results: — 250 cc Scramble —5 laps: R. Woods, Whakatane (8.5. A.) 1. 350 cc Scramble —5 laps: T. Parkinson, Opotiki (8.5. A.) 1. 500 cc Scramble, open to 350 cc—--5 laps: A. Marsh, Whakatane (350 cc A.J.S.) 1. Open Handicap—3 laps: A. Marsh Whakatane (A.J.S.) 1. Competitors were allowed an hour’s practice and lap times were taken, these being necessary for the handicaps. The course consisted of a number of straights, terminated by tricky corners, which proved to be the downfall of many riders. Spectators were given displays of skilful riding, coupled with some spectacular spills.. Due to the increased number of competitors—two clubs being involved —excitement ran high and onlookers were treated to some very close finishes. Members of both clubs are awaiting the development of a proposed trial to be held at the end of this month. Riders from other clubs have been invited to participate and it is hoped that there will be a good field of starters.
