No Cats, No Honey!
In a little English village the farmers and cottagers were dismayed to find that their beehives suddenly' failed to produce the usual store of clover honey. Scientific detective work showed that the reason was that the farmers had severely re-, duced the cat population because they thought the cats were killing poultry and young pheasants. No cats, no honey; why? The honey bees got most of their honey from the clover, and the clover was' fertilised by bumble-bees. The bumblebees were eaten by field mice, and the field mice had been eaten bycats. No cats, more mice; more mice, fewer bumble-bees; fewer bumblebees, less clover for the honey bees; therefore no cats, no honey. - - • '
