County Dog Tax Raised
Registration fees for all types of dogs within the Whakatane County have been raised, and the new rates will be effective for the forthcoming registration period. The fee for all dogs other than bona fide rabbiting and sheep or cattle dogs will now" be 10/-. It was 5/-. A farmer or farm worker will now pay the old rate of-2/6 on the first three dogs of his team,'and. 10/- for all others; Rabbiters will now pay 2/6 for each dog,compared with the old rate of 1/-. The Council discussed the proposals at length before reaching unanimity, the point most stressed being that the new rates were intended to discourage the keeping of large teams of idle dogs that might worry stock.
