Matata Women’s Institute Birthday Celebrations

The Matata Women’s Institute held its eighteenth birthday celebrartions in the King’s Theatre. There was a large attendance of members, also members and friends from other Institutes. There were competitions and items by the members.

Miss H. Mitai performed a very nice ballet, and also an Irish Jig. Mrs H. Burt obliged with a song, . and members of the Matata Institute Drama Circle performed a entertaining playette entitled “There was I Waiting at the Church.” The birthday.'cake, was made and decorated by Mrs H. Withy. The candles were lit by Mrs Gill and Margaret Conn blew them out, Mrs Wrathall cut the cake. Competitions drew large entries. ~ The meeting closed with afternoon tea served by the members, hostesses being Mrs Warbrick and Mrs McConnaehie. Competition results follow:Best flower: Mrs Taylor 1, Mrs Bagley 2, Miss Burt 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Taylor 1, Mrs Bagley •% Mrs PI. Withy 3. Best hand-made handkerchief: Mrs H. Withy 1.
