Control of Hemlock ' Following discussion of the subject last month, the Whakatane County Council has decided to declare hemlock a noxious weed as a first step towards eliminating it from the County. Ohope Roads Improvements have been carried out to Domain Board controlled lands and County roads at Ohope by the use of the’ County bulldozer, during the past week. The deviation at the foot of the Ohope Hill is being constructed. - Magnetic Truck Coming According to advice received by the Whakatane County Council from the Public Works Department, the Department’s magnetic truck will be in this district shortly to sweep County roads of metal articles likely to damage tyres. The Council will detail a man to act as guide to the truck. Beach To Be Flagged In view of last week’s tragedy at Ohope and at the request Qf the Surf and Life-Saving Club, the Whakatane County Council has decided to provide signs at the western end of Ohope 'Beach warning bathers against the danger there and suggesting that they swim in patrolled areas. Parking In Strand Following numerous complaints from members the Whakatane Chamber of Commerce recently conducted a survey of vehicles parked in the main business area. It was found that over 30 cars belonging to business men were parked in the Strand in many cases for the full day. The Chamber suggests that business men who can park their cars away from the Strand particularly today (Friday) and during the busy period next week should do so.
