“ONCE A YEAR”

Once a year come Xmas chimes With memories fond of bygone times Age looks back, youth looks ahead Youth is alive, but age is dead To the thrills that youth inspires Eager with unfulfilled desires That the future may satisfy In the sweet glamorous by and by That will hope’s fulfilment bring Autumn fruit for the abloom of _ spring Once a year, the wide world o’er Goodwill releases a bounteous store Of things to gladden the heart and eye Good cheer that all may satisfy Appetities with food and wine replete When friends long separated meet And brighten their Yuletide repast Discussing glad days that sped so fast Recalled by many an old refrain That will echo when Xmas comes again Till the call comes to follow on To where many of life’s friends have gone . Where time and tide, no longer sway The demensions of night and day For time and tides affinity Will merge into eternity Day and night will no more compete Darkness will become effete. At the dawn of the perfect day Goodwill will have come to stay Love and peace the hearts of all will sway Christmas comes but once a year The heart of man to warm and cheer With the Holy Graces, Three Faith and Hope and Charity. H. SERGANT.
